Day 1 -
Olive Grove Guesthouse Windhoek
Arrive,
overnight in Windhoek at Olive Grove Guesthouse, a pleasant and
very welcoming place to begin your holiday.
Days 2 &
3 - Sesriem / Sossusvlei
Head
south to the magnificent Namib Naukluft Park and towering "apricot
coloured" dune fields for a two night stay at one of the well appointed
lodges in the area. Explore the area with your guide including a
day trip into Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and return to your lodge via
Sesriem Canyon. Ballooning over the Namib Naukluft Park is a recommended
inclusion on your last morning in the desert. (Option to continue
south for a two night stay on the Namib Rand Nature Reserve, one
of the most scenic and solitary areas in Namibia).
Days 4 &
5 - Hansa Hotel Swakopmund
Continue
on to the coast where you will visit Walvis Bay lagoon, take a dolphin
and seal boat cruise to see the marine mammal and bird life. Recommended
accommodation is at the colonial style Hansa Hotel in Swakopmund.
The seaside town of Swakopmund offers many attractions from shops,
side-walk cafes, museums to various adventure activities such as
sand boarding, quad biking in the dunes, fishing and skydiving.
A seafood dinner at the Tug Restaurant on the jetty is an excellent
addition to your time in Swakopmund.
Days 6 &
7 - Mowani Mountain Camp Damaraland
Taking
the coastal road north you visit Cape Cross and the cape fur seal
colony en-route inland to Damaraland, an area known for it's stunning
landscapes. Here there is the option of a wilderness experience
in our mobile camp, or a stay at the luxurious Mowani Mountain Camp.
These two days will involve searching the area along the Aba-Huab
and Huab River beds for desert adapted game such as the elusive
desert elephant, and visiting attractions such as the Twyfelfontein
rock engravings, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipe rock formations.
Days 8 &
9 - Epupa Extension or Hobatere Lodge, Hobatere Concession
bordering western Etosha National Park
(For
a longer safari we will take you further north into the Palmwag
Concession, Kaokoland - home of the Himba tribe, and up to Epupa
Falls on the Angolan border. This will require an additional 4 to
5 nights).
Alternatively
we head for Etosha National Park and stay the following two nights
on the Hobatere Concession which is located on the western boundary
of Etosha. Hobatere offers great game viewing opportunities in a
rustic and homely setting. Activities include a guided walk, day
and night game drives to see both diurnal and nocturnal animals
and game viewing from the hide by their waterhole.
Days 10
& 11 - Okaukuejo Restcamp, Etosha National Park
Entering
into Western Etosha we cross through a restricted research area
closed to general traffic. This takes us to the edge of the famous
Etosha Pan and back into the general area of the Park where we stay
at Okaukuejo Restcamp in bungalow accommodation. Your guide will
cater for your meals, and the evenings are spent by the restcamp's
floodlit waterhole. Game driving to spot the wide range of animal
and bird life species is the focus of your time in Etosha.
Days 12
& 13 - Okonjima Lodge, Waterberg
Your
next destination is southwards down to Okonjima Lodge situated in
the Waterberg Region. Working in conjunction with the Africat Foundation,
Okonjima is a special place where you will learn about the rehabilitation
and research programme of Africa's big cats and be treated to close
encounters with these beautiful creatures. To top it all off, the
warmth and comfort of the lodge provides an even more memorable
stay.
Day 14 -
Depart
From
Okonjima it is only a 3 hour drive south to Windhoek. You can opt
for an afternoon flight home and still have time to stop at Okahandja's
open air craft and curio market, or return for a final night in
Windhoek before departing home on day 15.
